Aegean Airlines refund for cancellation.
Are you eligible for it? If so, what are the applicable rules?
The rules are found in European Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, which defines the obligations of airlines and the rights of passengers. This regulation lays out the procedures that European airlines like Aegean must adhere to in cases of flight cancellations, and it indicates what you are entitled to in such instances. There are two most likely situations/scenarios.
Aegean Airlines Refund For Cancellation
There are two potential situations.
So, let’s start with a question — When was your flight cancelled?
Scenario 1: Flight Is Cancelled Less Than 2 Weeks Before the Trip
You can get: Refund or a new flight + compensation (if it’s due to the fault of Aegean Airlines).
This is deemed a last-minute flight cancellation.
Aegean Airlines must present two options if they cancel your flight less than 14 days prior to your journey: a complete refund or a new reservation to your planned destination. The choice is yours to make – Aegean Airlines refund or a new flight? If the fault was on Aegean’s part, you might be eligible for flight cancellation compensation.
Both the refund and compensation will be transferred to your bank account.

Scenario 2: Flight Is Cancelled More Than 2 Weeks Before the Trip
You can get: Refund or a new flight to your destination.
If your trip is cancelled more than 14 days before departure, you are not eligible for compensation. However, you still have the alternative to opt for a refund instead of the flight. Aegean is obligated to provide you with a choice between a new flight or a refund, and it’s your right to select the option that best fits your needs.
Your Aegean Airlines refund should be processed within 7 days.

What If You Miss a Connecting Flight Due to Cancellation?
Rest assured, you will be accommodated.
In the event of a flight cancellation leading to a missed connecting flight, Aegean Airlines will arrange a new flight to your destination at no additional cost. What about compensation? The same regulations apply like to delayed flights. You have to look at how much later you will reach your destination compared to the initially scheduled arrival time. If the delay is 2 or more hours, you might qualify for flight compensation.

Aegean Airlines Cancelled Flight Refund: FAQ
If My Flight Is Cancelled, Do I Get a Refund?
If your flight is with Aegean Airlines and is a journey originating from or concluding in Europe, then you are entitled to a refund instead of rebooking (if you choose so), although you cannot avail both simultaneously.
However, if Aegean Airlines cancels your flight with less than 14 days’ notice due to their error, you might be qualified for both a refund (or a replacement flight) and Aegean Airlines flight cancellation compensation.
Aegean Airlines Voucher…, Can I Get Money?
What happens if Aegean Airlines proposes a voucher in place of compensation?
If Aegean Airlines presents you with a voucher as a substitute for financial compensation, you have the right to reject it and demand cash instead. It’s important to remember that European Union regulations (Regulation (EC) No 261/2004) mandate airlines to offer compensation and refunds either in cash or through bank transfer.
Have you already received a voucher?
Request Aegean Airlines to convert your Aegean voucher into cash.
What If Aegean Airlines Is Refusing Refund For Cancellation?
If Aegean Airlines is rejecting your refund claim, don’t despair.
Remember that you are entitled to demand a refund. You can refer to the Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, Articles 5 and 8, which compel airlines to refund passengers under certain conditions. If Aegean Airlines continues to resist, seek assistance from the national enforcement body in the country where your flight was scheduled to depart.
Can You Get Both Compensation and Refund?
Yes, you can in certain situations.
If Aegean Airlines cancels your flight less than 14 days before departure due to an error on their part, you have the right to a full refund as well as compensation from Aegean Airlines. Bear in mind that both the refund and compensation should be received in cash or bank transfer, not in vouchers.
If you’ve already accepted a voucher or coupon from Aegean Airlines, you can convert it into a cash refund by reaching out to Aegean Airlines.
In all circumstances, you are also entitled to care.
What Happens If I Cancel a Flight, Not the Airline?
If you cancel your flight instead of the airline, the refund you receive will depend on the fare conditions of your ticket.
Non-refundable tickets, as the name suggests, do not offer refunds. However, in some cases, airlines may offer a credit or voucher for future travel minus cancellation fees. It’s essential to read the fare rules before purchasing your ticket.
Keep in mind, according to EU Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, compensation is usually granted when the cancellation is on the airline’s side, not the passenger’s.
What If My Flight Is Delayed Instead of Cancelled?
If your flight is delayed, you might be eligible for compensation under EU Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, depending on the length of the delay and the distance of the flight.
If the delay exceeds three hours, you may be entitled to compensation, just as if your flight had been cancelled. However, airlines are not obligated to offer compensation if the delay was caused by extraordinary circumstances beyond their control.
Can I Claim Compensation for a Cancelled Flight Due to Bad Weather?
In most cases, airlines are not liable to provide compensation for flights cancelled due to extreme weather conditions or natural disasters.
These are typically considered ‘extraordinary circumstances’ beyond the control of airlines.
However, airlines are still required to offer care as stated in EU Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, no matter the reason for cancellation.
What Happens If the Airline Goes Bankrupt?
If an airline goes bankrupt and cancels its flights, the situation becomes more complex.
Although you might not be able to claim compensation or a refund directly from the airline, you might have other options. If you paid by credit card, you could potentially file a claim with your credit card company. Alternatively, you might have protection if you purchased your ticket as part of a package holiday or if you have scheduled airline failure insurance (SAFI).
