Aegean Airlines Damaged Baggage Compensation

Aegean Airlines damaged baggage compensation.

What happens when Aegean Airlines is responsible for damaged baggage? Are you eligible for compensation? Let’s clarify.

From time to time, baggage gets seriously damaged. We’re not talking about minor scuffs or small dents that are a normal part of air travel. For those minor issues, Aegean Airlines bears no responsibility. However, Aegean Airlines is accountable for serious damage, such as busted wheels and handles and other major issues like holes or even cracks.

What steps should you take if your luggage is damaged?

What to Do If Your Luggage Is Damaged?

Your immediate action should be to report the damage.

How to file a claim for Aegean Airlines damaged baggage compensation?

Before you leave the baggage claim area, find the Baggage Service Office, typically located near the baggage carousels. At this location, you can file a report for damage to your bag.

Ensure you have your passport and boarding pass ready. Bring along your damaged bag. Once you’ve completed the report, you’ll receive instructions on the next steps. Most likely, the airline will fix your bag without charging any fee. If your suitcase or bag is beyond repair, Aegean Airlines will replace it.

If the damage is noticed after you’ve left the airport, at home or at your hotel, you can file a claim with the Aegean Airlines Customer Contact Centre within 7 days of your arrival. It’s crucial to adhere to this timeline. It’s preferable to report the damage immediately upon detection (as soon as possible).

What rights do you have if your baggage is damaged?

Is there a possibility for Aegean Airlines baggage compensation?

Damaged Baggage Compensation

If your checked baggage is damaged, you could be eligible for compensation.

Aegean Airlines is responsible for this, and you could receive compensation of up to €1300.

The compensation amount depends on the value of your damaged bag. It’s expected to cover your expenses to purchase a new bag of the same value.

Remember to submit your Aegean Airlines compensation claim.

The airline is mandated to deposit this compensation into your bank account. There is no obligation to accept Aegean Airlines compensation vouchers, miles, or coupons. It’s worth noting that electronics, artwork, jewellery, etc., should not be packed in your checked baggage, because Aegean Airlines is not responsible for compensating the full value of such items, only up to the limit set by the Montreal Convention and its Conditions of Carriage.

If the damage is due to a flaw in the bag itself, you won’t be eligible for compensation. Also, Aegean Airlines is not responsible for minor damage such as scratches, small dents and other (normal) signs of use on your suitcase. Air travel, unfortunately, sometimes results in such damage.

Reimbursement of Expenses

In most cases, there won’t be any reimbursement.

If your baggage is lost, and you need to replace any of the necessary items, you are entitled to reimbursement for your expenses (often referred to as delayed baggage compensation). After purchasing these essential items, submit a claim along with all the receipts, and Aegean Airlines will refund you.

You have 21 days from the day you receive your lost baggage to file a claim for reimbursement. But this is only applicable when your baggage is lost or delayed.

Is Travel Insurance Necessary?

Is baggage insurance required? It depends.

You can certainly travel without it.

Aegean Airlines is already obligated to ensure the safe delivery of your luggage due to the Montreal Convention, a treaty applicable to the carriage of baggage. This condition is applicable to most of Aegean Airlines’ international flights and other airlines worldwide.

However, having reliable insurance is always beneficial.

It may expedite your compensation process. Once you’ve filed a report for your damaged bag, contact your travel insurance provider to inquire about the next steps. Your travel insurance may refund you the cash value or price of your luggage right away. The documents you received at the Baggage Service Office will be needed to file a claim.

Take note that not all insurance policies cover damage to your baggage. It’s best to verify this in advance to avoid unnecessary stress and unpleasant surprises later.

Travel Prepared

Planning for the unexpected is always wise.

Baggage rarely gets damaged. But it does happen.

Therefore, it’s a smart move to pack a change of clothes and some underwear in your carry-on. Just in case your suitcase and its contents get damaged. Also, avoid packing valuable items in your checked baggage. This can prevent you from dealing with the hassle of filing a damage claim and possible disappointment over insufficient compensation.

Protect yourself by being prepared before you travel. Don’t let damaged baggage ruin your trip, be informed and know your rights for proper compensation. Travel smart and have a worry-free trip with Aegean Airlines!

Happy travels!

What is your experience with baggage damage and Aegean Airlines? Have you ever received damaged baggage compensation from Aegean Airlines or other airline?

Note that in this case, with Aegean Airlines compensation for damaged baggage, just like in many other situations we are talking about on this website, it doesn’t apply only to Aegean Airlines. Rules are the same for other airlines as well. In this case that’s because of the Montreal Convention, a treaty that applies to the carriage of baggage. It applies to most international flights of Aegean Airlines and other airlines around the world.
